Takamine Tadasu - To Far to See

April 23-July 10, 2011

Takamine Tadasu (born in 1968) has created a succession of works including installations that incorporate new media such as video, sound, and computers, and performances that link the body with artistic expression. His activities include collaborations with dancers and musicians, and in recent years, Takamine has also become involved in overseeing stage productions, further expanding his work to be recognized as a genre-transcending creator.

Yoko Ono Exhibition for the 8th Hiroshima Art Prize

July 30-October 16, 2011

An awards ceremony is scheduled for July 2011 together with an exhibition commemorating the presentation of the award to Yoko Ono at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art. It is greatly anticipated that this commemorative exhibition will help communicate, from Hiroshima to the world, the messages of Yoko Ono that are rich with the inspiration of the abolition of nuclear weapons and the creation of a world without war, and it is thought that the exhibition will have a great effect on garnering attention to this Hiroshima Art Prize across the globe.

Yutokutaishi Akiyama & Kotobuki Shiriagari: Buriki no Hakobune

October 29-January 9, 2011

Buriki no Hakobune (Tin Ark) offers viewers the chance to savor in a single show the careers of Yutokutaishi Akiyama and Kotobuki Shiriagari: Akiyama's tinplate sculptures and paintings plus his numerous happenings, ranging from the very earliest years of his career to the present day; and Shiriagari's ink drawing installations, plus his Yurumation videos and the Kotobuki Shiriagari History Museum.

Charlotte Perriand et le Japon

After her work Bar sous le toit received widespread acclaim when it was shown in 1927 at the Salon d’automne, Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) joined Le Corbusier's studio. Then, alongside works by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, she displayed a proposal for the new type of house called Equipement intérieur d’une habitation, which made use of new materials such as steel, aluminum, and glass.

What a Wonderful World: Visions in contemporary Asian art of our world today

On this exhibition, the focus will be on Hiroshima as a theme in contemporary art, showcasing primarily works from the permanent collection that touch on various aspects of Hiroshima as a region; Hiroshima as atomic bomb victim, for example the destruction wrought by the bomb and the city's subsequent recovery; and the nuclear threat in general.

Special Viewing: Taro Okamoto,Myth of Tommorow

July 2–November 6, 2011

Myth of Tomorrow, a painting by Taro Okamoto, depicts the nuclear threat and the vitality of those opposed to nuclear weapons. In commemoration of August 6, Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Memorial Day, Okamoto’s painting is open for a special viewing during summer.

Open Call for Art Project Ideas 2011

"Open Call for Art Project Ideas 2011" is an open call exhibition applys the free public zone of the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art. The Hiroshima MOCA anticipates applications from anyone who make site-specific art works to exhibit atvarious spaces in our free public zone (Entrance Hall, Corridor, Foyer, Museum Studio,Stairwell, etc.). Any kind of artistic media including painting, sculpture, video, installation and performance art are acceptable.
