A Creator Who Transcends Contemporary Art, Performance... and Every Other Genre
Takamine Tadasu (born in 1968) has created a succession of works including installations that incorporate new media such as video, sound, and computers, and performances that link the body with artistic expression. His activities include collaborations with dancers and musicians, and in recent years, Takamine has also become involved in overseeing stage productions, further expanding his work to be recognized as a genre-transcending creator.
Confronting questions that arise out of everyday life, Takamine transform and sublimates them as a work in the process of dealing with them. Reflecting issues that face contemporary society, such as ecology and recycling, his works pose life-sized questions regarding irrational aspects of society faced by artists and also function as a kind of challenge.
This exhibition provides a heretofore unknown opportunity to survey from important works such as God Bless America(2002) and Baby Insa-dong(2004) from the early '00s to his latest efforts, which reflect Takamine's assimilation of locals elements such as place and participants, and give form to his current interests. With his eyes fixed on the contradictions and irrational aspects contained in human actions, Takamine produces vivid expressions imbued with criticism and humor.
